Hi, thanks for the link. While this >should< be the GPL source, it is not. As the filename states, it is a x86_64 source, does not include the used arm dts. Also it is a 4.x kernel source - not a 3.10.x as used in the 3.02.02.11 firmware.
I asked Thecus about the gpl sources, but they also only gave me that link. Replying to that email i got no answer.

Perhaps you can be more forceful and let them know you will report GPL violation :) It is not fun to do that, but sometime somebody got to do that for the community.
I've found Zyxel quite responsive regarding GPL. I've asked Zyxel in the past (a few times for NSA325, NSA310S, and NAS326), and a multiple person team responded to my email within a couple days. It is really good business to be known as GPL compliance (Zyxel, WD are such), but some companies just being short sighted. If it is a new product, then they might be a little slow, that I can sympathize.

Re: Samba crashed in Debian stretch
At the moment I don't have the time to look for the root cause of failure.
So I did an "apt-get dist-upgrade" on my installation. And now what should I say samba is working.
I think some important libraries didn't got installed with a simple "apt-get update".

Re: other USB ports
Yap, i have written them again. But the chinese new year is still running until tomorrow. Thecus also answered my first mail within one day last time. Maybe they don't get email replies?
Also Thecus somewhat tries to supply GPL sources for all their boxes. But they seemed to have mixed them up for the Armada boxes. Right OS Image version, but wrong architecture.
I will write, if i hear from them.

Good to hear they are concientious with GPL. Last time I browsed their website, GPL info seems old.

That makes a lot of sense. Sometime, "apt-get dist-upgrade" is the only way to get Samba working consistently.

Re: USB drive causes booting problem with Linux Kernel 4.4.89 Oxnas
Tryed a few things tonight, but issue is still not solved:
- tried booting with systemd instead of init -> sam kernel panic
- tried booting with fat, ntfs, ext and ext4 drive (ext4 created with the extra options -O ^64bit)
with fat and ntfs drive attached on boot system booted, with ext2 and ext4 it failed.
example with fat
Format ext2:
The difference i see in the logs are around here:
When system boots:
tried to search for some realted bugs, but did not find anything useful so far

Re: Boot problem with Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi on Dockstar
Hello bodhi,
I have now a working system with Debian 9 and the 4.10.9-kirkwood-tld-1 kernel.
What about flashing the new u-boot?
Do I have to look for something special?
These are my bad blocks in mtd0:
Is this ok? Can I safely flash the new u-boot?
1. My uBoot envs config is defined as
2. My partitions look like
4. save my current envs, save ethaddr, and save NAND mtd0: with nanddump
5. Erase mtd0
6.Write image to NAND
Should I flash the default u-boot envs image ?
1. flash erease
2. flash u-boot envs image
fw_setenv:
for Dockstar:
set mtdparts and ethaddr
(I need to enter the backticks? I mean the ' -> is this correct?)
->xx my real ethaddr here
What about the DTB file?
Right now it is embedded in my 4.10.9-kirkwood-tld-1 kernel because of the old u-boot.
So I leave the fw_setenv dtb_file empty right?
Does it make sense to put this in /boot/uEnv.txt :
*with my old embedded kernel I leave the line like dtb_file =
otherwise with a new kernel with the path and filename
Have I missed something important or do I need some other additional env-vars?
It would be nice if you could have a look over my entry and give me a feedback.
Thank you in advance.

Re: USB drive causes booting problem with Linux Kernel 4.4.89 Oxnas
schnee,
I think problem might be with this drive/partition. Have you try
1. recreate the partition from scratch and reformat it?
or
2. Use a different USB thumb drive?
If you do that and still having problem, I will do a test on my box to verify if I see anything strange.

No. You should restore the original uImage. Rembember when you create the rootfs, you have saved the original uImage:

No need to use uEnv.txt. Just set the env to boot with separate DTB
Ok. Be very careful, because the Dockstar does not have UART booting capability. And you don't have serial console either. A tiny mistate could make the box semi-bricked and you will need to connect serial console to recover.
If the u-boot image flashing failed, you will need to stop and post the log here.
If you'd like, do you procedure as you laid out above, but don't reboot. Post the entire log of the terminal session here and I will double check for you before you reboot.

It is not a back tick. It is a single quote.

No. You should restore the original uImage. Rembember when you create the rootfs, you have saved the original uImage:
Quote
4b. Boot with DTB file embedded in the kernel image (no U-Boot envs changes are needed if your system already booting on USB or HDD)
Again, please replace kirkwood-goflexnet.dtb below with the correct DTB name for your box.
Generate the uImage and uInitrd:
cd /boot
mv uImage uImage.orig
cp -a zImage-4.15.2-kirkwood-tld-1 zImage.fdt
cat dts/kirkwood-goflexnet.dtb >> zImage.fdt
mkimage -A arm -O linux -T kernel -C none -a 0x00008000 -e 0x00008000 -n Linux-4.15.2-kirkwood-tld-1 -d zImage.fdt uImage
mkimage -A arm -O linux -T ramdisk -C gzip -a 0x00000000 -e 0x00000000 -n initramfs-4.15.2-kirkwood-tld-1 -d initrd.img-4.15.2-kirkwood-tld-1 uInitrd

No need to use uEnv.txt. Just set the env to boot with separate DTB
fw_setenv dtb_file '/boot/dts/kirkwood-dockstar.dtb'

Re: USB drive causes booting problem with Linux Kernel 4.4.89 Oxnas
bodhi,
the USB drive was created for the test.... The initial issue was with my 1TB harddrive. I used the same USB drive, same partition with different filesystems. With fat and ntfs it was booted fine, with ext[2,4] it caused kernel panic on boot....
The system was working fine with the previous rootfs, the problem started after creating the new Debian 9 rootfs.

Are you booting directly from SATA? or just use SATA as a normal rootfs drive?
If booting directly from SATA, check you uImage and uInitrd to see if they are in sync, and if they are updated in the SATA /boot folder.

Re: USB drive causes booting problem with Linux Kernel 4.4.89 Oxnas
bodhi,
yes i boot directly from SATA and yes my uImage and uInitrd are correct. I had some time and i downgraded the kernel to 4.4.79, recreated uImage and uInitrd and magic everything works fine. To double check i downloaded the 4.4.89 image again and reinstalled it, generated new uImage and uInitrd files, but the result was sam kernel panic.
For reference here is the 4.4.79 boot log
I don't know what changed between 4.4.79 and 4.4.89 but is see that the rootfs check is succesfull in 4.4.79 and it always failed in 4.4.89
4.4.79
4.4.89
Thanks

Re: Boot problem with Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi on Dockstar
Ok. I will try it during the weekend.
And thanks that you will have a look at the procedure and will double check it for me.
But I think I will use the 4.10.9-kirkwood-tld-1 kernel because I know it is working with my dockstar at the moment.
Right now I don't have a serial console for further debugging. I will install it later when I have more free time.
I don't get it right now maybe it's too late here :)
My plan was to create a new image like in your "manual" 4a and use this as suggested.
Did you mean I should use the kernel the same way (embedded) as before like 4b and boot the kernel as I did it before?

No. You should restore the original uImage. Rembember when you create the rootfs, you have saved the original uImage:

Re: USB drive causes booting problem with Linux Kernel 4.4.89 Oxnas
schnee,
Here is my boot log where the rootfs is Ext4 and the 2nd USB drive is also formatted as Ext4.
You can use this log as a guide to compare with your configuration and boot log to see what might have been causing problem in your box.
And logged in with SSH.
root@PogoPro:~# uname -a
root@PogoPro:~# cat /etc/debian_version
root@PogoPro:~# mount
Note that the 2nd drive was plugged next to the Ethermet port, so it spun up faster and assigned sda1. My rootfs is sdb1.
root@PogoPro:~# fw_printenv
root@PogoPro:~# fdisk -l

Re: Linux Kernel 4.4.89 Oxnas (OX820) Pogo V3 package and Debian rootfs
Hello,
Nice to hear you are still working on these Oxnas devices. RTC was my problem too before and I did not find any good resolution in it. Would it work if I2C was left in kernel and RTC made as module to ensure I2C was initiated first?
B.T.W. Original 2.6 kernel dmesg has RTC first and I2C after it:
"rtc-ds1307 0-0068: rtc core: registered m41t00 as rtc0
i2c-gpio i2c-gpio.0: using pins 41 (SDA) and 42 (SCL)"
